Phone coverage can drop out in remote areas, so it is a good idea to download maps before you leave town. Offline maps keep working without a phone signal.
How to download a map in Google Maps
- Connect to Wi-Fi or mobile data and open the Google Maps app.
- Tap your profile picture.
- Tap Offline maps, then Select your own map.
- Move the map to cover the area you are travelling through.
- Tap Download.
Good to know
- Download your maps before you reach an area with no coverage.
- Offline maps can give driving directions, but they will not show live traffic.
- Tell someone your plans if you are heading somewhere remote.
