There are two sources of power in your campervan:
- 240V -This is the power is the standard electrical source that powers households and most buildings. When connected to power at a campsite, 240v charges your house battery and powers your microwave and power sockets. For 240V info and troubleshooting please head HERE.
- 12V – is the electricity supplied by your campervans secondary (or ’house’) battery. This powers the lights in the living area, the water pump, the USB chargers and the fridge while your van is not connected to power at a campsite.
This article discusses your 12V system and possible troubleshooting.
How does the 12V system work?
Your secondary battery receives power predominantly from connecting to 240v at powered campsites. This should last 2-3 days dependent on your usage. Your secondary battery also receives a slight amount of energy from the vehicle’s alternator while you are driving, but please note this is not enough to fully charge your secondary battery, even when driving very long distances.
If you are not connected to power and nothing works:
The first thing to check is that the isolation switch is in the on position. This switch controls the whole system and if it is off nothing will work. In most vans, it is located on the side of the kitchen area by the bed. It is easy to bump it off by mistake, so it is always a good starting point to check!
If the switch is on and still nothing works, your battery might be empty. If you haven’t charged up in a couple days, try connecting to power overnight and monitor how long the battery lasts.
Tip: Your fridge is the main drain on the battery. You can extend the charge by turning the fridge down to 1 during the night and avoid opening and closing it often. If the weather is really hot, the fridge will use more power to stay cold and drain your battery faster.
Note: if you have charged your battery overnight and it lasts less than a day, it might need replacing. Please contact our customer care team and we will be happy to help. All options for contacting us are on the bottom of this page.
