This is a common call we get and most of the time it is due to the lights being in the Parking light position. Parking lights are commonly used when a driver needs to briefly stop their vehicle on the side of the road. They do not provide enough illumination for safe driving at night.
How to select light function
In a Toyota Hiace the right-hand wand controls your indicators and lights. To turn the lights on you twist the end into the appropriate position:
Headlight off:
Park lights (very dim) used so people can see your vehicle:
Headlights on:
High-beam: Push the wand forwards. This engages high-beam and is indicated by this light illuminating on the dash. This is to be used on country/highway roads at night when there is no oncoming traffic.
Pull the stick/lever/wand towards yourself while the lights are on to turn off the high beam function. You will know it is off because the above light goes away.
